Everywhere we turn we see dramatic images attributed to climate change. Al Gore has found his stage and strides across the planet preaching doom and gloom. At one time, climatic incidences were seen as wonders of nature and the earth was viewed as cyclic, sometimes we have warm spells and sometimes we have cold ones. Climate change and global warming may not be proven but the invasion of 'superbugs' is.
In the UK more people die as a consequence of of Healthcare Acquired Infections than die as a result of a road traffic accident or a murder. MRSA and Clostridium Difficile infections continue to rise and the mutation of micro-organisms continues almost unabated. E.Coli, Klebsiella and Shigella, could become the new threats in the future and TB infections continue to grow. Hepatitis A,B and C are becoming more common and HIV continues to kill millions. The flu pandemic will surely take hold and kill millions more. Bacteria continue to mutate in defence of antibiotic attack and the continual and growing migration of millions of people make transferrance a bigger and bigger problem. As antibiotics become less and less effective and pathogens mutate and change our immune systems have less chance of defending us.
CLIMATE CHANGE WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM UNLESS WE ADDRESS ATTACK FROM MICRO-ORGANISMS.
Just an interesting afterthought. The young and the old are the highest risk groups. Look at your children and parents and determine whether this is something that should be taken more seriously. The laws are there, they are just not enforced. In the UK a cafe can't trade unless the staff have food hygiene training. You can be a funeral director or embalmer though without an ounce of infection control training. How stupid is that? andrew@anubishealthcare.com
